Positions, Eligibility and Voting
The UGSA elects seven executive board positions: president, vice president for internal affairs, vice president for external affairs, treasurer, secretary, electronic communications officer, and travel/thesis fund administrator. UGSA elections normally occur at the March meeting, and nominations are accepted after the January meeting, and are closed at the February meeting. Any graduate student, whether or not they have any previous involvement with the UGSA, may apply for these positions. Positions vary significantly in the amount of responsibility and/or technical knowledge they require.
Special elections may be held one month after an officer resigns.
Voting details are explained in the constitution.
Description of Duties
Note that although their official duties are outlined in the constitution in Section V.3, and the dollar amount of their honorarium is described in the budget, currently there is no official description of either the benefits or the time commitments for several of these positions. The best way to get a feel for the requirements of a position is to ask the person who currently holds the post. The UGSA is always excited to have enthusiastic candidates, so please write if you are considering running for a position!
