Budget

The UGSA receives its funding as part of the student fees that all graduate students pay. As of the end of the 2003-2004 school year, this amount was $16/student. The budget for the UGSA thus runs about $90,000 a year, but after giving a percentage of its funding to the Student Activities Board, it has an operating budget of $60,000-$75,000 a year. A significant portion of our budget is given to individual chapters to spend and also to students to pay for thesis and travel funding.

The UGSA has a line-item budget which is approved each year by the UGSA council (i.e. the representatives and SIGs). For questions or comments about the budget, please contact our treasurer.

The current approved budget for 2009-2010 is here.

Some items on the budget

  • NAGPS: This is the National Association of Professional-Graduate Students, and is the national graduate student association to which we belong. Some members of the executive board attend these meetings in order to keep on top of national and regional graduate student movements.
  • Chapter rebates: Each chapter is given a rebate based on its size and its participation in the UGSA. Please contact the treasurer for more information on how the rebates are calculated.
